If you’re having trouble learning a certain subject, you might be advised to try to teach the material to someone else. How does that work? When you need to explain something to another person, you retain the information better, you gain a deeper understanding of the subject, and you can help somebody else understand as well. This is exactly why I jump at the chance to teach children’s and youth ministry when I come home from school. This is why I can’t help but tell people about what I see God doing in my life. It’s not enough for me to hear something meaningful. I have to understand it more, I can’t afford to forget it, and it’s just too good to keep to myself.
This morning I had the opportunity to teach the Amplify kids about the importance of having an accurate view of God. The idea I wanted them to understand and remember most was this: it’s dangerous to assume we have God figured out; God is just too big and mysterious for us to grasp in His entirety, even if we devoted our whole lives to trying to do so. And from the first time I read the script right up to while I was teaching it to the kids, God was working in my heart to teach me this as well. I can and should pray every day to know, love and fear God more. But the purpose of knowing more about the heart of God isn’t to put Him in a box; it is to be more deeply in awe of how glorious He is.
I want the kids to reevaluate their Godview over the course of this series, and my Godview is maturing as well. It is one thing to read and learn about Jesus; it is another thing entirely to savor the beauty and truth and infinite value of His story. If we are learning who Jesus really is, how can we not savor Him? If we don’t count Jesus more important than everything else, it’s likely we have yet to understand His worth.

Fantasy: Fuzzy puppy babies that walk and talk and never grow up, as opposed to actual human children. They would sit in car seats and you could take them to Disney World and ride the Dumbo ride with them and then buy them ice cream they would hold in their little paws.
